IBM Spectrum Virtualize and Spectrum Control Workshop

This workshop will provide a technical overview of the Block Virtualization as provided by the Storwize Family of products (including Compression), with emphasis on SAN Volume Controller (SVC) and Storwize V7000. Included also are components that make up the IBM Virtual Storage Center, with emphasis on IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center (TPC).

Some hands-on lab exercises are provided. Lab content includes:

• Creating and manipulating Compressed Virtual Volumes
• Migrating Virtual Volumes between storage subsystems without stopping I/O
• Working with the newly enhanced TPC 5.2.x GUI with Cognos v10 reporting
• Managing your storage assets and storage performance with TPC v5.2.x

Day 1 – Focus on Block Virtualization (including Compression)

• SVC and Storwize V7000 v7.4.x Block virtualization basic concepts, thin provisioning and compression, data migration, and advanced functions such as EZ Tier and Copy Services
• Labs for use of GUI, Compressed Volumes, and non-disruptive migration
• Flashcopy Manager (FCM) – brief overview, use cases with Storwize Family backup/restore
• TPC for Replication (TPC-R) – brief overview, use cases with Storwize Family Copy Services

Day 2 – Focus on Storage Management in a heterogeneous environment

• Tivoli Storage Productivity Center – multiple labs in two “Lab Sessions”
• TPC v5.2.x user interface
• Cognos reporting engine
• Asset, Availability, Capacity, and Performance Management
